Please note that, while this course is not required as part of the Coaching Certification Program, it is a very valuable course to attend prior to participating in further coach training.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

If you seek to inspire and motivate others, then coaching may be the skill set for you.  This emerging field draws on numerous communication approaches and techniques you can use to support others in achieving short and long-term goals by developing a positive approach to all areas of their lives.  In this experiential 3 1/2 to 4-hour introductory session, we’ll discuss what coaching is – and isn’t – distinguishing coaching from mentoring, consulting, therapy, training and athletic development, coaching core beliefs, qualities of an effective coach and the essential components of all coaching interventions.  Additionally, the Montgomery College Coaching Certification Program, the International Coach Federation coach credentialing process and the latest trends in the coaching industry will be addressed.

 

COURSE LEARNING GOALS

If you successfully complete this course, you should be able to:

    • Understand the unique characteristics of coaching
    • Understand the International Coach Federation’s (ICF) definition of coaching and the ICF coaching core competencies needed to be an effective coach
    • Identify how similar and related disciplines to coaching are different from coaching
    • Understand the essential components of coaching conversations
    • Understand the ICF coach credentialing process
    • Understand the latest trends in coaching
